New works by Minnesota painter Jil Evans examine the role that light plays: both in art, and in one’s personal convictions. Through observing historical paintings in museum collections, the artist reflects, sketches, and translates her response into a series of vibrant, large scale, abstract oil paintings. Focusing on 5 works from the Minneapolis Institute of Art, this exhibit documents her creative process by presenting sketches and text with the completed work.
“I aspire in my paintings to express a profusion of activity, developed with a keen desire for uniting near and far, small and large, the loud and the quiet, the rent with the joined.” – Jil Evans
