Erie Art Museum Opens Healing HeARTs, a Highmark Caring Place Exhibit
Erie, PA - The Erie Art Museum is pleased to open Healing HeARTs, an art exhibit on grief, loss and hope featuring artwork by the children, families and volunteers of the Highmark Caring Place. The show will open November 8 and will run through February 16, 2019. An opening reception will be held November 8th from 5:30 - 7:30 p.m. in the second-floor gallery.
“When we learned about the Highmark Caring Place and the amazing work they do with grieving children and families, we offered them a space to share their work,” said Joshua Helmer, Executive Director of the Erie Art Museum. “We are grateful that these brave families have graciously allowed us to share their artwork, which poignantly represents both the pain of their loss and the hope that lives on.” In addition to the exhibit, Illuminating HOPE is also on display in the lobby of the Museum. Thousands of butterflies have been decorated with messages of remembrance and encouragement for those who have experienced the death of someone important to them and have been placed on lighted canvases to spread the message of HOPE. “While the Highmark Caring Place provides such services as support groups and school services to help children and their families cope with loss, it is so heartwarming to see hope and healing portrayed in the artwork of these creative children and adults,” said Caring Place manager Kristie Nosich. “And just creating the artwork is a means of expressing the emotions the children are feeling, which, in itself, helps in the healing.”
Visitors can experience both displays during Museum hours, Thursdays & Fridays, 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Saturdays & Sundays, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. 20 East 5th Street, Erie, PA 16507
