We come home to celebrate the diversity, independent spirit, and bold creativity of our native composers. From George Gershwin’s blues-tinted tunes to the good humor of Leroy Anderson, the deeply-felt spirituality of Erie’s own Harry Burleigh, the fresh ragtime sounds of Scott Joplin, to the modern motoric rhythms of Jennifer Higdon, the American musical landscape is vast and steeped in creativity. In this episode, the Erie Philharmonic performs works from the nineteenth century to present day, showcasing how composers can take native dance, song, and rhythm, and combine it all into a distinctively American voice.
This concert will be made available online during the week following the broadcast. Please watch our social media accounts for more information.
