Growing yet again! Waldameer and Water World is racing into Summer 2020 with an exciting 6-lane Rally Racer waterslide debuting in Water World. Racers will collect their racing mat at ground level and make their way up to the starting line atop a 50 ft tower. From the start line, racers will spiral down headfirst on their mats in enclosed tubes that meet and form an open-flume “rally section.” Then, racers will spiral again in enclosed tubes until they meet in a final rally section with a drop into finish line.
The amusement park wasn’t left out for 2020, as a new family spinning coaster, Whirlwind, will offer pint-size thrills for children and their families.
Scott Enterprises has revealed an exciting new activity, Erie Axe Throwing! Erie Axe Throwing (at Quaker Steak & Lube) is the first facility of its kind in Erie. Guests can master the art of axe throwing, an activity which has been growing in popularity across America. Guests can sharpen their throwing technique with one of the legendary Axe Masters before splitting their group into teams and aiming for their highest score in a side-by-side competition.

Lot 10, located off of East 5 Street between the Erie Art Museum and expERIEnce Children’s Museum has recently transformed into a unique new garden setting for Erie. Whether you’re looking to just sit and relax to enjoy the day, or even to host a meeting to catch up on work, there is something for everyone in the newly renovated lot. The Lot’s one-of-a kind hut, archway and trashcans were designed by local artist Evan Everhart and made out of recycled materials.
A new boardwalk and teaching pavilion were recently completed after a 10-year planning process. The new boardwalk is 8 feet wide, 2,000 feet long, lighted and includes handrails on each side and is fully accessible for wheelchairs. The teaching pavilion is on the edge of a wetlands on nature center grounds. Both provide a unique outdoor learning experience for children and visitors.
Formerly known as the U Pick 6 Beer Store on upper Peach Street, this brewery will brew on-site house recipes and feature a wide variety of craft beers. Coming Winter 2019.
This new venue will feature indoor & outdoor panoramic views of Presque Isle Bay and Lake Erie, seafood-forward menu with raw bar, private dining, upper mezzanine, fire pits and more. Coming Summer 2020.
Splash Lagoon Indoor Water Park & Resort has undergone a major expansion! New features include the Flow Rider indoor surfing machine, expanded arcade, improved food service and additional space for guests.The indoor surf machine, The Flow Rider has riders to begin by kneeling on a body board, learning to balance and maneuver as water rushes over a trampoline-like tensioned fabric surface. Guests will learn tricks on the body board including spins and flips before graduating to standing and surfing the wave on a specially designed flow board. The Flow Rider is built for two simultaneous riders and can accommodate as many as 200 riders in an hour. The water park will also offer private surf lessons. The project also includes the construction of a large elevated balcony with seating for guests which will overlook the new Flow Rider and the popular Wild Waters Wave pool and will feature a new food service area and bar. In conjunction with the launch of the thrilling new attraction, the water park will also expand the existing Treasure Island Arcade at Splash Lagoon by 2,500 square feet. The additional space will house approximately forty new arcade games, bringing the total number of arcade games to over 100. The space will also offer an area for groups & birthday parties.

One of the most popular spots on Erie’s Bayfront got a face lift! Designed by internationally-known street artist SatOne, the eye-popping abstract mural covers the observation deck at Dobbins Landing (foot of State Street).
The best way to view the complete mural is from the top of the Bicentennial Tower. This public art project is a collaboration between Erie Arts & Culture and the Erie Western Pennsylvania Port Authority.
Watch for the new exhibit building on the campus of the Hagen History Center which will provide 6000 square feet of new exhibit space. The construction of the building should be completed in Fall 2019 and the first floor exhibit should be completed by Spring 2020.
Arrowhead Wine Cellars recently unveiled their new tasting room and retail space. Celebrating over 20 years of success, Arrowhead still features their award-winning wines along with some new varieties.
The final stage of the 16 million dollar renovation project at UPMC Park is underway. Fans can enjoy a new entrance plaza being on East 9th Street that will also house a fan store for both the Erie SeaWolves AA Baseball team and the Otters OHL Hockey team. Completion early 2020.
East Dobbins Landing will get a makeover and anglers will get a new place to fish at the foot of Holland Street. With help from the state and other organizations, the Erie-Western Port Authority is proceeding with a project to fix the dock wall and make other improvements to East Dobbins Landing and another project to add a fishing pier to the Holland Street pier, behind the Port Authority’s offices.
