Dog-Friendly Beaches

Presque Isle State Park, Erie’s top attraction for beaches and outdoor recreation, is a great place to bring your pup! At guarded beaches, leashed pups can hang out by the tree line. On unguarded beaches, dogs can frolic on the sand and splash in the water! In all areas of the park, dogs must be leashed at all times and never left unattended.

In addition to the park’s sandy beaches, the 13.5-mile-long Karl Boys Multi-Purpose Paved Trail is a popular place for walking your dog. The trail follows the perimeter of Presque Isle State Park with scenic views of Presque Isle Bay and Lake Erie throughout. Pets are also welcome in all picnic areas

Some of the best unguarded beaches for dogs:

  • In between Barracks Beach and Beach 6 is a long stretch of unguarded beach popular with pet owners
  • Waterworks Beach (between Beach 6 and 7)
  • Mill Road Beaches (just past Beach 8)
  • Between Beach 10 and Gull Point

Erie County regularly tests water quality to ensure it’s safe for swimming - for both humans and animals.
