The Erie Art Museum offers the educational program, Second Sundays, every month. This free program features art on display in the Museum, a tour in the gallery, and a hands-on craft. The next program will take place on Sunday, February 11 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. Grab your pack and stampede to the Erie Art Museum to explore your creative side. Hunt for inspiration in the jungle-themed paintings of Mark Weber’s exhibit ANIMALS. Then get crafty with guest artist Annie Schmitt from Awesome Dinosaur. Form colorful modeling clay to recreate the flora and fauna on display in the paintings and bring them to life with stop-motion animation! All ages welcome.
Mark Weber has worked as a fine artist and illustrator for over thirty years, creating whimsical drawings and paintings without apology. Whether using acrylic paint, marker, or graphite, drawing is always the foundation of Weber’s work. Sometimes he invites the element of chance by applying ink loosely with a brush and blowing and turning the support to manipulate the drips. This stream-of-conscious interaction with his work leads to dreamy landscapes populated by strange human and anthropomorphic animal figures. His other signature style is to pack the flattened surface with compressed stylized animals, vegetation, and abstract shapes. He then fills the space with vivid primary colors.
Annie Schmitt is a local Erie educator that strives to create learning environments where kids’ creativity flourishes. Awesome Dinosaur offers STEAM programs specializing in project-based and inquiry-based instruction, bringing expertise in the fields of art, science, and technology.
Second Sundays provides FREE admission to the Erie Art Museum from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. with tours and an exhibit-based art activity from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. This program is made possible with support from Erie Insurance, Erie Arts and Culture and PA Cyber School.
