The mission of the Erie Philharmonic is to strengthen our community and region by providing high quality live orchestra concerts and programs that enrich, entertain and educate people of all ages. Starting in the 2015-16 season, following an entire staff turnover and mid-season office relocation, the orchestra made a conscious decision to focus on all activities on these three central tenants. Over the subsequent seasons, this focused, mission-driven approach has led the orchestra became an unrivaled presence in the community, presenting life-changing musical experiences for audiences of all ages, including:
- Pianos donated to 34 individuals in need
- Four 60-day long-term residencies for local underserved preschools, supported by the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts
- Free Youth Concerts presented for thousands of students accompanied by a detailed curriculum developed by Carnegie Hall
- Instrumental petting zoos
Additionally, the orchestra has recently completed a groundbreaking virtual reality orchestra project and has been featured in numerous national publications and news outlets, including Good Morning America, the Huffington Post, Forbes and NEA Arts.
Due to the ongoing COVID-19 situation, the Philharmonic is presenting its 2020-21 season free for the community, televised on WQLN PBS.
Following long-awaited renovations to the Warner Theatre, the orchestra is planning a grand reopening celebration in November 2021.
